So far I have only played a few secondhand short tenon..... out of three I only found one that really sounded fantastic tonewise, and that was a guitar that had a headstock repair. Ultimately though good sustain and transfer etc is down to the quality of the joint rather than the type. I've had a few Jap les Pauls with stumpy neck tenons and they were highly resonant and sustained forever..great quality workmanship though. GitFiddle
